On Monday 12th May we were very fortunate to have a visit from award- winning local author Catherine Cawthorne. Catherine shared her latest books with us and we were able to give her a special thank you as she was kind enough to donate some of her prize to us in the form of £250 worth of brand new books! We were both delighted and inspired to meet Catherine and look forward to keeping in touch with her.
What a fantastic fun packed day! We had the most fun on Red Nose Day and raised an astonishing £1400 for Comic Relief. The pupils worked hard to raise money for teacher swap where they were able to be an adult in school! The pupils who swapped to be an adult had great ideas such as having a party and giving their class extra play! In our whole school assembly, we shared some music videos of our staff which the children really enjoyed. The pupils also raised a huge amount of money to cream pie an adult in the face! Thank you to all the parents and carers who donated so much to such a fantastic charity.
Our pupils who attend choir club each week performed a wonderful medley of songs at G Live with other Guildford schools. It really was a wonderful evening and a proud moment for many of our families and teachers who attended. The children then performed the songs to the school in an assembly.
Year 4 have thoroughly enjoyed their six weeks working with a professional artist from Paintbox and their class teachers to explore a range of art materials, techniques and developing skills such as drawing, pattern and paper-craft. This has built their creative confidence, resilience and wellbeing whilst improving their visual arts knowledge and skills to enrich topic learning.
The children created a range of 2D and 3D artworks which transformed the classroom into the Amazon Rainforest. Friends and family were invited to a private view of an in-school exhibition.
Our annual Wonderful World Week is always a joyous occasion for all the pupils when Jim visits with his diverse collection of drums. Our pupils learn so much about the origin of the drums and the rhythms that are played which builds on their geography and music learning. It is such a treat especially when Year 6 perform to the whole school and their parents.
Year 1 pupils had a ‘smashing’ day yesterday with the Pinata Smashlings, produced by Toikido! They were treated to an inspirational assembly bringing real-world career and STEM themes for the day, incorporating computing and art and design subjects. Jason Perry, a Grammy award-winning record producer and songwriter provided the music fun. It was a fun filled day all round.
Year 5 pupils were visited by an Historian from Surrey History Centre to learn all about a Sidney Sime (1865-1941), the famous artist, illustrator and caricaturist. This visit was linked to learning about local history. The pupils engaged in talking about Sidney Sime’s artwork and the drawing skills he used to create his pieces of artwork. The pupils then had a go at creating their own artwork in the style of Sidney Sime.
As part of the hook for the theme ‘Invasion and Innovation’ in the autumn term, Year 5 classes with visited by Chertsey Museum for an Anglo-Saxon day! They looked at a range of artefacts and studied the daily life of Anglo-Saxons. The explored the similarities and differences between Anglo-Saxons and Vikings life too.
Year 1 and 2 pupils treated the school and their families to a medley of show stopping songs including ‘Let’s go fly a kite’, ‘Tomorrow’ and ‘Singing in the rain’. Click on the button below to watch the wonderful performance.
